Your choice comes first

When you first visit, a small banner in the corner asks whether you accept analytics cookies. Until you press Accept, nothing that tracks you runs and no analytics cookie is set. If you decline, nothing is set at all. You can change your mind at any time with the Cookie settings link at the foot of every page.

Your choice is remembered in your browser's local storage, not in a cookie, so the site does not ask again on every page.

Analytics: Microsoft Clarity

If you accept, the site loads Microsoft Clarity, which shows me how people use the site: which pages are read, where people click and scroll, and anonymised recordings of visits. Text typed into forms is masked and never recorded. Clarity then sets these cookies:

• _clck: remembers the Clarity user ID and preferences, for one year.
• _clsk: connects page views into a single visit, for one day.
• CLID: identifies the first time Clarity saw this browser, for one year.
• ANONCHK, MR, MUID and SM: Microsoft cookies Clarity uses to tell visits apart and to link to Microsoft services, for between one session and one year.

If you withdraw your consent, Clarity stops on the next page and its cookies are removed.

The speaking form

The speaking invitation form uses Cloudflare Turnstile to keep bots out. It is a security check, not tracking, and it sets no analytics or advertising cookies.

The editing area

The editing area at /admin uses a sign-in cookie for the people who edit the site. Visitors never see it.

Changing your settings

Use the Cookie settings link at the foot of any page, or clear cookies and site data in your browser settings. Nothing on this site stops working if you decline.
